This month, IKEM had three reasons to celebrate!

First, climate researchers from around the world converged in Berlin for the 19th annual IKEM Academy, where they exchanged ideas about the future of the energy supply.

Second, the EQT campaign finished strong, clearing the way for us to begin toolkit production. Thanks again to our generous donors!

And third, we’re pleased to announce the release of a new infographic poster, completed in collaboration with GermanZero, which breaks down the construction process for wind turbines and makes it clear that we need to start now to accelerate renewable energy expansion.

What does the energy system of the future
look like?
 

From 11–15 July, IKEM held the annual IKEM Academy, a five-day conference that brings together climate and energy experts from around the world. After two years of hosting the event online, IKEM was thrilled to welcome speakers and participants to the conference in person.

The theme of this year’s Academy was ‘Our energy future: Innovation and participation to reach our climate targets’. The programme featured seminars about social innovation, green hydrogen, climate litigation and other tools that can accelerate the transformation of the energy system. Participants learned how to apply the principles of design thinking to the challenges ahead, used AI-powered technology to generate their vision of a sustainable future, and toured local sites to discover how Berlin businesses like Brauhaus Neulich are advancing the energy transition.

Thank you to all of the participants and speakers at this year’s Academy. We're already looking forward to next year!

Success! EQT campaign surpasses fundraising goal

We're pleased to announce that the crowdfunding campaign for EQT: The Gender Equality Toolkit for Working Women and Friends raised €14,600, surpassing our initial goal! Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can now begin toolkit production – the final step in bringing the toolkit to life.

The wheels of progress turn slowly: IKEM poster examines delays in turbine construction

IKEM collaborated with GermanZero to analyse why wind turbine construction is such a long process. An infographic poster developed for the project includes 16 concrete recommendations for speeding up the planning and approval procedures.

Save the date! IKEM Annual Conference on 11 October 2022

On 11 October, the IKEM Annual Conference will once again bring together representatives of the fields of economics, law and social science to discuss climate change mitigation. This year, the topic of the conference is ‘The road to COP27: advancing global climate action’.

Social Innovation Challenge seeks ideas for the energy transition

The ENGAGE project explores the potential for citizen participation to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy system. The ENGAGE Social Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for members of the public to submit ideas for social innovations that can advance the energy transition. Prizes include coaching to further develop the winning idea, as well as access to the broad networks of the four ENGAGE partners.

What does the future of mobility look like? At the Future Mobility Summit 2022, experts from politics, science, industry and civil society will exchange ideas at TU Berlin. IKEM is participating in the event as a network partner.
