While being no stranger to international conferences, being able to present their research at the Transport Research Arena was a particular highlight for the Mobility Department. At the largest European research and technology conference on transport and mobility our colleagues shared their findings from the projects User Chi, Orchestra, Amelie II and MobiRural.

Hydrogen and ammonia were the central research topics of the Energy Law Department in 2022. In projects such as CAMPFIRE, HySupply and TransHyDE, IKEM published numerous studies on the legal framework of a future hydrogen economy. IKEM's research work on hydrogen import was even featured in the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

During the last three years, the IKEM Academy 'Energy & Climate' organized by the Sustainability and Innovation Department could only take place digitally. This year, the team was happy to welcome people from 24 nations that came together in Berlin to discuss strategies for implementing the global energy transition.

This year, the Research Academy has published numerous papers on legal aspects of climate change, including the Handbook on Climate Law. And, since January, IKEM has also been publishing Klima und Recht, the first legal journal on this new field of law.

Green hydrogen is considered an essential element of a sustainable energy system based on renewable energies. A TransHyDE study now published by IKEM has examined the current German and European legal framework for hydrogen and concludes that the creation of a hydrogen economy is still held back by legal inconsistencies.

By analysing more than 100 studies from over 25 countries, Ariadne researchers from the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and the IKEM have shown which behavioural interventions motivate people to save energy.

To ensure that former coal regions such as Lusatia are not left behind economically, a successful transition to renewable energies and a climate-friendly local economy is necessary. A recent study published by IKEM used international case studies to examine how a just transition in the regions can be realized.

In order to contribute to a coherent approach to legal and economic theory in Europe, Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi's new book examines multiple legal systems from an economic perspective.

The new poster of IKEM summarises the drivers and barriers for the establishment and consolidation of pop-up bike lanes as well as their legal basis, using Berlin as a case study. There, the establishment of pop-up bike lanes has shown how municipalities can design climate-friendly urban mobility options despite restrictions imposed by federal road traffic law.

BOWE2H aims to promote transnational cooperation on offshore wind energy and hydrogen projects in the Baltic Sea region. On February 14, 2023 (09:00 - 12:00), the project will launch with a digital workshop.
