The legal framework is of crucial importance for a successful energy transition, and our research at IKEM supports its improvement and further development. Tomorrow's energy experts also need to understand the complex interplay between law and the energy industry in order to drive the transformation forward. We are therefore excited to report the following news from academic teaching in this issue of the newsletter: Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi has been appointed as academic director for the Master’s programme “European and International Energy Law” at Technische Universität Berlin for the academic year 2023/2024.

Furthermore, we would like to introduce our new publications: In two recently released factsheets, you will learn how fleet quotas and emissions trading can support public transport fleet operators in the transition to more sustainability. Additionally, we present our poster with proposals for the effective planning and approval of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems. 

Last but not least, we have exciting event announcements for you: Registrations for the IKEM Academy 2023 "Earth 2050: Transformative Strategies for a Climate-Positive Planet" and for the Forum Wärmewende in Brussels are now open.

IKEM’s academic and managing director, Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi, has been appointed as academic director for the Master’s programme “European and International Energy Law” at Technische Universität Berlin for the academic year 2023/2024. The one-year programme provides students with technical and economic knowledge of the energy industry and the legal framework that governs it.

The energy transition is in full swing and the expansion of renewable energies plays a decisive role in the process. However, in order to achieve the government’s climate targets, it is necessary to accelerate the expansion of solar installations. In a new poster, IKEM and GermanZero therefore present a vision for enhancing the efficiency of planning and approval processes for ground-mounted photovoltaic systems in the future. 

As part of the EUniS project, IKEM published factsheets that delve into the European Clean Vehicle Directive and greenhouse gas quota trading. These factsheets are specifically designed to examine the effects of these instruments on public transport fleet operators.

At IKEM, on May 4, 2023, the MobiRural research consortium members convened to share their research outcomes and engage in discussions regarding the future course of the project. The European MobiRural initiative aims to identify sustainable solutions for rural mobility and create a practical learning platform to facilitate their successful implementation.

What does the future interaction of offshore wind energy and hydrogen production in the Baltic Sea region look like and what is currently happening in this area in Germany? These were some of the topics considered at a conference organised by IKEM on 22 May within the framework of the BOWE2H project.
