Collaboratively working towards a common goal

Hi ,

In the August newsletter we would like to give you an insight into the day-to-day working life at IKEM. In an interview, Managing Director Susan Wilms and Human Resources Manager Sandra Jankowski talk about what working at the Institute means to them and what defines the IKEM spirit.

Furthermore, we present two new publications that delve into groundbreaking technologies in the mobility sector: The now published conference volume by IKEM Director Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi sheds light on regulatory approaches to integrating autonomous vehicles into the legal system. And the latest study by the Mobility Department is dedicated to the billing of electric energy for overhead line trucks.

Last but not least, get ready for three exciting events in September: Alongside the next edition of the Berlin Energy Roundtable, you can look forward to the innovation workshop hosted by the IKEM project ENGAGE, as well as the Future Mobility Summit presented by Tagesspiegel. Another event highlight awaits in October: The IKEM Annual Conference 2023 on Road Freight Decarbonization, for which you can now register.

We hope you enjoy the read!

Until next time,

Cover Study
Electric energy billing for overhead line trucks

Overhead lines on highways are a promising approach to decarbonise heavy freight traffic. In a new study, IKEM has examined the legal framework with regard to the billing of energy consumption and the integration of overhead line trucks into the energy market.

"Our study finds that electric road systems on highways form a new net sector that requires its own market regulation, depending on the market phase. Here, the legislator would have to take action as far as a market ramp-up of the technology is to take place," says Giverny Knezevic, study author and research associate in the IKEM Mobility Department.
