Last week, we published our activity report for 2023, presenting 54 pages of key research projects, events and publications from the past year.

With the use of building automation, considerable emission savings can be achieved in the heat supply with little effort. In practice, however, expansion is slow. One of the reasons for this is data protection concerns. The study provides an overview of the status quo of data protection regulations and makes suggestions for overcoming the hurdles.

This chapter of the “Mobility Transition” study provides an overview of the key legal issues and challenges of the transport transition in Germany.

The QUARREE100 project, which has now been completed, dealt with the sustainable energy supply of urban neighborhoods. In this results paper, IKEM has summarized the key regulatory findings and policy options.

This collection of essays was published as part of the same project, in which the project partners from science, business and the public sector take a look at the project results and take stock.

In the editorial of the current issue of Klima und Recht, Judith Schäfer-Gendrisch presents her position on technological openness in the energy transition .

The final report summarizes the research work and results of the AStriD project. The project aimed to design and implement the full automation of a streetcar depot based on autonomous streetcars and a digital depot.

The upcoming edition of the Berliner Energiestammtisch will focus on the opportunities and possibilities of founding a company in the energy trading sector.

The event will take place on 21 May 2024 (18:00) at the EUREF-Campus at Convex Energy.

The IKEM Academy will take place from 2 to 5 July. This year's workshops, tours and panel discussions will focus on how climate protection and the energy transition can be promoted through positive narratives. Interested parties can apply now.

The partners of the IKEM project BOWE2H met in Malmö (Sweden) last week. The focus was on the Swedish plans for offshore and hydrogen projects as well as the possibilities for better transnational cooperation in the energy transition in the Baltic Sea region.

We will not achieve the climate targets if we do not push ahead with the decarbonization of the building sector - that was the consensus at the Forum Wärmewende on 22 April 2024. The discussion also covered ideas for promoting climate-friendly conversion measures, the challenges for homeowners and the energy-efficient refurbishment of public buildings.

Our colleagues Divy Gupte and Johann Helmann attended this year's Transport Research Arena in Dublin. They presented their poster on their experiences with the electric mobility app from the USER-CHI project. This is intended to support location planning for charging infrastructure in the future.

The final event of the ORCHESTRA project also took place at the conference in Dublin. Laura-Marie Schaudel was also on site to exchange ideas with the project partners.

On April 30, an expert dialog on hydrogen regulation in Scotland took place in Edinburgh. IKEM head of department Jana Eschweiler joined the event and reported on the experiences with the legal framework in Germany.

The second ENGAGE innovation workshop took place on April 12, 2024. Key finding: there is a lot of untapped potential for social innovation in the energy transition.

Hello Bundestag, we need to talk! - was the motto of this year's Climate Democracy Day on 27 April 2024, which was attended by citizens, associations and organizations across the country – and of course IKEM.
