Step by step towards a decarbonized future

Hi ,

Climate protection cannot be achieved overnight. Rather, we need a sequence of measures that build on each other in a meaningful way. This includes small steps, such as initiatives for more sustainability in everyday life, but also major projects such as the energy transition.

The completion of the latter is in turn based on many sub-steps, which in our view include the development of a hydrogen economy. That is why we at IKEM have been working on this topic in depth for several years – for this newsletter we spoke to our colleague Leony Ohle about the latest research findings, current challenges the industry faces and requirements for an ideal regulation of hydrogen.

We also report on our latest activity report as well as a whole series of studies and publications – including on the legal framework for building automation and the mobility transformation, autonomous trams and the sustainable energy supply of neighborhoods – which have recently been published. As always, we look back on the events of the month and invite you to the next events – including the next edition of the Energiestammtisch and the IKEM Academy 2024.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue!

Until next time,

The IKEM Communications Team

„Green hydrogen and its derivatives are an indispensable building block for the decarbonized future“

— Leony Ohle, Head of the Energy Law Department

Green hydrogen is considered a key component of a sustainable energy system based on renewable energies. IKEM is currently involved in around 15 projects on this topic, covering the entire value chain - from production, transportation and certification to the use of hydrogen and its derivatives in industry and transport.

We spoke to Leony Ohle, Head of the Energy Law Department, about good reasons for hydrogen as an energy carrier, gaps in the legal framework and IKEM's work on this topic.

Cover of the Study
Digitalization of the heat supply

With the use of building automation, considerable emission savings can be achieved in the heat supply with little effort. In practice, however, expansion is slow. One of the reasons for this is data protection concerns. The study provides an overview of the status quo of data protection regulations and makes suggestions for overcoming the hurdles.
