The Baltic Sea region has considerable potential for offshore wind energy and the production of green hydrogen - this is shown by the analyses carried out as part of the three-year research efforts and stakeholder engagement in the BOWE2H project. The results have now been published in the form of a study and an infographic poster. They outline the current status as well as the challenges and opportunities for the expansion of offshore wind energy and hydrogen production in the Baltic Sea region.

The study presents and analyzes the legal framework for the use of autonomous mobile robots in public spaces. The analysis is guided by the application concepts for autonomous mobile robots developed in the joint project “rokit”.

In the EUniS project, IKEM has investigated electric mobility concepts for the interaction between public transport and the energy industry and has now presented a legal study and recommendations for action. The result: public transport operators can in principle offer so-called system services with their electric buses, but a coherent legal framework is still lacking.

As part of the EDDY project, the study analyzes the key legal issues arising from advanced mobility technologies such as an Urban Dynamic Map.

Over the past three years, ENGAGE has looked at the question of how social innovations - new social practices and forms of organization - can contribute to greater citizen participation in the energy transition. As the project draws to a close, the Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) has now published its research findings:

The latest Energiestammtisch took place on 4 September. Special thanks go to the hosts of the evening, enervis energy advisors GmbH, and Markus Peek for his inspiring presentation on the topic of “Industrial load flexibility as a building block of the energy transition - potentials and obstacles”.

The final event of the ENGAGE project took place in Berlin on 13 September. The focus was on the presentation of the study results and recommendations for action as well as the exchange and networking of experts and representatives from various areas to promote citizen participation.

The online event on the legal framework for autonomous mobile robots (AMR) took place on 16 September. Markus Lehnshack presented his study and discussed the legal challenges and opportunities of AMR in public spaces with the participants.

“There are major obstacles to autonomous public transport in rural areas,” explained our colleague Emily Hartmann, who was invited as an expert to the summer retreat of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern SPD parliamentary group in Groß Nemerow.

If there is a lack of money for rural public transport, people have to help themselves - for example through decentralized local car pools, said our colleague Annika Weber (center) at the Fritz-Talk in Templin. The “Brandenburg, let's talk” event focused on public transport provision in rural areas and strategies that citizens can use to campaign for sustainable mobility.

The final EDDY event took place in Hamburg on 25 September. The results of the project, which is developing a digital city map with traffic data for European cities, were presented there.

The next edition of Forum Wärmewende will take place on 10 October and this time the focus will be on the role of digital technologies for an environmentally friendly and efficient heat supply. The event will start at 16:30 on the premises of IKEM.

COP 29 will take place in Baku (Azerbaijan) from 11 to 22 November 2024. IKEM will also be present this year - among other things with the official UNFCCC side event “Advancing a Climate-Resilient, Green, and Just Energy Transition” on 18 November.
