The session will include a warm-up with introduction and quiz, a panel discussion on innovative climate communication, featuring IKEM’s Anika Nicolaas Ponder, Head of Climate & Innovation, alongside Bernd Riedel (Head of Strategy and Design) from Ellery Studio, Vivian Radatz (Head of Climate and Energy) of WWF, and Omas for Future as well as a live cabaret performance by Viagra Falls, highlighting how musical performance can inspire climate awareness and action 

As a co-organiser, IKEM continues to advance new methods for climate science communication – supporting formats that are not only scientifically sound, but also emotionally resonant and culturally relevant. The event represents a step towards more inclusive, effective climate discourse at a time when broad societal engagement is urgently needed. 

In the TransHyDE – Campfire project, IKEM investigates the potential of green ammonia as an environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based fuels in shipping. The final report, which has now been published, analyzes acceptance-promoting factors for the use of “green” ammonia produced with renewable energies as an alternative fuel in shipping.

In this final report, Franziska Stamme and Johannes Graetschel, amongst others, examine the extent to which the multiple usage of planned areas at sea together with offshore wind energy could lead to additional potential.

In this background paper, Kathleen Pauleweit, Greta Hentschel and Markus Lehnshack shed light on how German environmental administrative law supports people who are committed to a gender-equitable socio-ecological transformation. They show the structural hurdles that women* and people with care responsibilities face when wanting to get involved in administrative procedures.

In this article, Johannes Graetschel discusses the 6th edition of Handbuch Umweltrecht, published by C.H.Beck. The book is ideal for gaining an overview of central sub-areas of environmental law and key specialist debates. 

In this legal analysis, Franziska Stamme and Charlotte Schwarzer-Geraedts analyze the legal framework for the integration of heat storages in Berlin's heating planning. They investigate which hurdles and levers exist for the implementation of heat storage technologies.

The European Association of Climate Law (EACL) invites submissions for its first conference on September 22 and 23 in Berlin, where current developments, future challenges and intergenerational justice in climate law will be discussed. The conference offers two separate calls for abstracts: one for the Early Career Researcher Workshop on the first day and one for the general session on the second day.

On April 10, IKEM Director Prof. Dr. Michael Rodi gave his inaugural lecture upon his admission to the Leibniz-Sozietät der Wissenschaften zu Berlin. The lecture addressed the possibilities and limits of law with regard to the intergenerational and global challenges of climate change.

The next edition of the Berlin Energy Round Table will take place on May 13, 2025, this time focusing on the coalition agreement. In a joint presentation, Dr. Sarah Debor and Dr. Martin Riedel will explain how law firms and energy supply companies perceive the new government program.

You can now register for the first edition of the IKEM Symposium on Climate Law and Policy. The conference on May 28, 2025 will address the complex relationship between climate protection, energy supply and security from a legal perspective.
