New government, new climate policy?

Hi ,

The new coalition agreement is in place. It marks an important political milestone that will determine the direction of the coming years. But what does it mean for climate and energy policy? In this interview, Judith Schäfer-Gendrisch assesses the key climate policy plans of the new federal government, comments on the current social sentiment regarding climate change and formulates clear demands and wishes for the new government.

As always, we also inform you about past events and recent publications, including the final report of the TransHyDE – Campfire project on the potential of green ammonia for shipping and an article on approaches to gender-equitable administrative procedures in environmental law. We also invite you to upcoming events – the Energy Roundtable and the Climate Law and Policy Symposium conference.

We hope you enjoy reading this edition of our newsletter!

Until next time,

The IKEM Communications Team

Interview on the Coalition Agreement

Interview with Judith Schäfer-Gendrisch
“Protecting the climate is an opportunity for innovation and competitiveness”

In this interview with Judith Schäfer-Gendrisch, Managing Director of IKEM, we spoke about the implications of the new German government for climate and energy policy. It is crucial that the coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD finds a balance between ambitious climate protection and economic stability without jeopardizing the climate targets through too many compromises. This is the only way Germany can achieve its climate targets and remain a pioneer in international climate policy.

It will take place on May 27 from 18 to 19:30 at Ludwig Erhard Haus in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

The session will include a warm-up with introduction and quiz, a panel discussion on innovative climate communication, featuring IKEM’s Anika Nicolaas Ponder, Head of Climate & Innovation, alongside Bernd Riedel (Head of Strategy and Design) from Ellery Studio, Vivian Radatz (Head of Climate and Energy) of WWF, and Omas for Future as well as a live cabaret performance by Viagra Falls, highlighting how musical performance can inspire climate awareness and action

Climate Cabaret

As a co-organiser, IKEM continues to advance new methods for climate science communication – supporting formats that are not only scientifically sound, but also emotionally resonant and culturally relevant. The event represents a step towards more inclusive, effective climate discourse at a time when broad societal engagement is urgently needed.
